ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Sophie, and I'm a creative who has been studying and working in the fashion industry for over ten years. I'm passionate about print design; I love the process from the initial start of playing with ideas, creating mixed media textures, drawings, paintings, and digital elements, and then taking them onto the computer to make visually successful and satisfying repeat designs.
I have a varied and versatile print and graphic design handwriting and enjoy the challenge of delivering successful design briefs. One day, I will be designing beautiful, elegant hand-painted florals, and the next, I might be working on streetwear graphics and complementary textural prints. I think I do this so successfully because I find many genres of art and style interesting. Fashion is such a force of expression, and much like my work, my own sense of style interchanges with mood, occasion, seasons, and trends.
For me, creating something beautiful, interesting, or successful is incredibly rewarding, and I believe the process should always be fun, positive, and collaborative. I enjoy working with others, but even when working alone, there is a sense of collaboration in the form of research and inspiration.
Ethics and sustainability align closely with my core values as a person, so bringing this into my work wherever possible is very important to me. During lockdown, I started a project called SOPHIE EMMA JAMES PRINTS, utilising creativity and art to raise money with the purpose of giving back to women around the world. I experimented with a combination of innovative and intricate hand painting techniques to create unique and bespoke products, with 10% of all sales going to an incredible charity for women’s economic empowerment in countries across the globe, such as Afghanistan, India, and Kenya.
